Phenylalaine:

This stuff is commonly found in food such as crisps and has even been spotted in chewing-gum. It is normally found after the ingredients and is displayed as such, "Contains a source of phenylalanine."

Such regular occurrence in everyday food meant the substance needed closer investigation.

After extensive research (10 mins) it became clear it was in fact an amino acid normally found in the brain that is considered essential for humans as it is involved in the production of a lot of other amino acids.

It is even possible to have a genetic disorder (phenylketonuria) which can result in lethal amount of phenylalanine being present in the brain. (i.e. killing you)

Even more extensive research (one internet search) and I stumbled across an interesting website, and found this stuff is actually sold as tablets in that crazy country they call the US of A, and its for depression, sex drive, and weight loss!
